Scenario

Remote management capabilities need to be added to a data center, which is composed of servers, routers, switches and other network equipment physically spread across many locations. Important features are data encryption to ensure security and the ability to remotely access network devices independently of network availability.

Solution

The RS-232 serial console ports from every network device are connected to the Cyclades AlterPath™ ACS, an advanced console server.

The AlterPath™ ACS allows network managers to have the same remote and secure access to all network devices as the Cyclades-TS. Additionally, it provides flexibility and hardware features to meet the most demanding user requirements.

The AlterPath™ ACS has two PCMCIA slots that can be used to provide the required additional interfaces: A wireless Ethernet card for dedicated management access and a V.90 modem for out-of band access. With this new setup, the AlterPath™ ACS provides access to the entire data center through many paths regardless of network availability and provides the data encryption required to ensure security.

The AlterPath™ ACS dual input redundant power supplies can be independently connected to both power circuits available in the data center, ensuring its availability even if one of the power circuits fails.
