The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates data center energy consumption should reach $7.4 billion in 2011. While this number is frightening for both the environment and companies' bottom line, energy efficiency opportunities exist to help alleviate these costs. And, even better, your local utility company can help fund your energy efficiency projects via rebates.

Rebates are available from your local utility provider

Rebates/financial incentives are available to support the installation of improved airflow management control systems, containment pods, monitoring, and power management systems that ensure the efficient utilization of power and cooling in your data center.

The incentives are calculated based on an initial baseline, so you must turn in an application with baseline information before making any purchases to be eligible for a rebate.

Baseline that reflect current practice

Baseline is defined not just for equipment efficiency, but overall system efficiency. Incentives are based on the degree to which the entire proposed system (the air delivery system, cooling systems, UPS's, PDU's, humidity control system, monitoring tools etc.) out-performs the baseline.

Customized Retrofit Checklist

The Liebert CRV is a multi-option, precision air conditioner that offers temperature and humidity control. It installs within a row of data center equipment racks, providing cooling close to the server heat source for the most efficient and effective operation. The system features Liebert iCOM controls and a digital scroll compressor, resulting in high reliability and optimized system performance. The horizontal airflow is suitable for raised or non-raised floors.

Liebert CRV uses environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant, and is available in different versions, depending on the requirements:

• 20 or 35kW air-cooled and water-/glycol-cooled systems
• 40kW chilled water cooled systems
• 50 or 60Hz models
