RF Code, Inc. and Raritan announced in a press release on September 27th, that they have jointly integrated RF Code's wire-free monitoring solution with Raritan intelligent rack PDUs. The combined wire-free energy management solution, available in September, is comprised of RF Code active RFID hardware and management software and Raritan's "RF Code Ready" PX family of rack PDUs that uniquely measure and monitor power usage of individual servers and other IT devices, as well as temperature and humidity at racks. Using the Avocent DSR appliance standalone, a user cannot create his/her own macros. However, it is possible to add this feature by purchasing Avocent's DSView3. Three kinds of macros are made available: personal, global and exit.

Personal and global macros are user defined key sequences used within the KVM session (ie. Ctrl+Alt+Del)

Exit macros allow users to create a macro that returns a target device to a known state. They reside on the managed appliances and are executed whenever a DSView 3 software session is terminated. For example, if a user is connected to a target device and the user closes the Video Viewer session, an exit macro may be executed that resets the target device to a known state by logging the user out of the target device session. Exit macros may be created and maintained by any user with "Configure Unit Settings" access rights. Different groups of exit macros may be created for each managed appliance in your system.

Software corruption and user error happens from time to time as we all know. If your ACS has become unstable or has just stopped working as a result of this, don't fret, it can be recovered. Using a TFTP server and an FTP server you can network boot the unit from the TFTP server then install a good copy of the firmware via FTP.
